mid-major

A term invented by American sports-writers, used within college sports.

"Mid-Major" was originally used because no one had a good term to describe a college or conference less powerful than the BCS college/conferences, but more powerful than the next level down. The Division I-A non-BCS conferences, as of 2007, are the Mountain West, Conference USA, MAC, WAC and Sun Belt.

Sports writers and fans alike often express distase for the term, but no one has been able to come up with anything better yet.

1) The mid-major conferences had a good year in 2006, when Boise State upset Oklahoma in their bowl game.

2) Why does Michigan keep scheduling those mid-majors early in the season? Schedule a real team, already!

Major Lolz, one of the commanding officers of the chatspeak brigade answers only to Lt. General Lmao and General Rofl. He is one of the more deadly forces to be reckoned with, as his training is general enough to command a respectful amount of knowledge and proper usage of the lolz.

Major Lolz led his battalion of outlawls into battle expecting a complete victory.

Major Lee "Apollo" Adama 

One of the main characters in the wonderful television show Battlestar Galactica who is the CAG (commander of the air group) of said ship. The actor who plays him is so beautiful that viewing him on screen sometimes causes Bamberitis. While currently married to Lt. Dualla, AKA Dee, there is a huge fan following for a relationship between him and Captain Kara "Starbuck" Thrace. In fact, in the original series aired in the 70's, Starbuck was played by a man. Apparently the two pilots had a sexual vibe despite both being men, as seen in the copious amounts of slash fanfiction. This may have led to Starbuck's gender change.
