Labour Party

(In Britain) a now largely redundant political party that formerly represented the British working class. Growing out of the Union movement in the late 19th century, it now acts largely as a hobby horse for bored Hampstead housewives, woke activists and careerist politicians.
Rob: hey did you hear that Labour Party activist talk about the pressing need to decolonise the curriculum, promote greater understanding of gender fluidity, and to increase the numbers of black lesbians in STEM?
Alice: yes - I’m sure that will help win back former Labour seats in the north.

Builder: I’m just a tad concerned that an open-door to labourers from Eastern Europe might be suppressing wages and making it harder for me to make a living.
Labour Party activists: shut up racist!
Builder: It’s nothing to do with race - besides eastern Europeans are white.
Labour Party activist: don’t mansplain to me.

labour party

A political party historically on the left of centre of politics, recently through the hard work of Tony Blair a right wing Conservative party with even more right wing views.
Lurching from scandal to mistake to deceitfullness the labour party has managed to alienate its large following after the Conservative downfall. Many UK voters are now faced with the dilemma of being faced with two right wing parties , both with leaders distrusted by the public.
The Labour party is now in negotiations with President Bush to make the UK the 51st American state so we can enter military conflicts on their behalf whilst they sit at home eating big macs and watching all 235 channels of cable tv 25 hours a day. Tony Blair and his cabinet feel this is not at all in conflict with the roots of labour and their stance for nuclear disarmament and equality for all
Id rather see Basil Brush in office than the labour party, at least he's funny and more intelligent than Blair and Blush combined. Mind you with Labours broken promise on fox hunting there might be a Basil about to take office

Labour-Tory

Generally pejorative. Pejorative describing the UK Labour Party as a centre-left political party, with very little difference to their centre-right counterparts the Conservative Party UK (Tory's). Similar to Labour Trotsky and “Trots” pejorative. The UK Labour Party were formerly rebranded as New-Labour in the 1990's under centrist premier Tony Blair, and for e.g. The Times' political commentator Peter Riddell, (reported) that "an economist from Mars 'would conclude that the same government had been in charge throughout the second half of the 1990s".
Labour-Tory could be said as easily as New-Labour; "war-mongering, democracy-starving, Third-way, New Labour-Tory fuckers".

Labour Day

A public holiday that falls on the first Monday of September, observed in Canada and the United States (Americans spell "labour" as "labor"). In Canada, this is a "statutory holiday", meaning that no one can technically be forced to work it, but those who are willing to must be compensated with government-specified higher pay.

Labour Day, at least in its modern, early 21st century form, does not have any specific, traditional rites or celebrations. It is meant to be a day spent relaxing or recreating, as it celebrates the year's hard labour by workers. Much more common, in other countries, is to have the celebration of May Day (1st day in May), although this is often associated with marches in support of organised labour (unions), and (unfortunately), in recent years, potentially violent demonstrations and actions against wealthy, multi-national corporations.

It is safe to say that May Day is not celebrated in the US because of its ties to and sympathies toward socialism and communism. It can equally be presumed that Canada has aligned its workers' holiday with the US for reasons of politics and economics, as well as commercial convenience.
"Labour Day is an official day of rest for workers. While May Day is meant to do the same, many workers take to the street instead, marching in support of workers' rights."
