jumped the shark

Refers to a 1970's TV sitcom. It had a main character known for being the Coolest guy on TV (The Fonze). As the series entered one of its last seasons, the writers had this oh-so-cool guy waterskiing in his trademark leather jacket, to jump a shark. It was truely the moment when the series went downhill from there and was soon mercifully cancelled.

Rober Jordans book series 'The Wheel of Time' jumped the shark in book four and has gotten worse ever since.

Jumped The Gate

To most people, marijuana is considered a gateway drug that leads to other drugs. "Jumped The Gate", or "Jumping The Gate" is when considering one individual experiences a drug, at first, that is something other than marijuana as their first drug. Double Jumped The Gate and other variations are counted until a person experiences marijuana. That is when "Going Through The Gate" or "Gone Through The Gate" is applied.

often precipitated by introducing a lower-level line or announcing a collaboration with a non-prestige brand.

similar to the phrase jump the shark, but goes beyond merely assessing quality & creativity of the product; cultural relevance and loss of respect by the cultural elite are important elements as well. applies exclusively to luxury brands.

the H&M capsule collection was bad enough, but when they heard about the collaboration with UGG, the fashionistas knew Jimmy Choo had jumped the pig.
