Butt Rock

A term used by insecure male music fans who dislike bands like Creed and Nickelback because they do not want to admit they like that music, and instead project a homoerotic connation to compensate insecurity.
I heard that song Higher by Creed, I really liked it, but I cannot let anyone know so I am going to tell everyone I heard that butt rock band Creed on the radio.

Butt Rock

Any music that was produced using predictable assembly line style power-chord structures and lyrics with absolutely zero forethought other than rhyme and easy mass-identification. If a band churns out more than one album per year, odds are favorable that they are a butt rock band. Bonus points if the lead singer attempts to emulate Scott Stapp because although Creed is not (quite) butt rock, there would be no butt rock without them. Pioneers of butt rock include Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, Three Days Grace, Buck Cherry, and Hinder. The song "The New Sh!t" from Marylin Manson's "Golden Age of Grotesque" album can be interpereted as a poignant critique of butt rock.
It only took me one listen to completely digest that new Hinder tune. Butt rock goes down so smooth! I don't have to think at all!

butt rock

Butt Rock, as opposed to the above definitions, refers to bands (primarily from the 1990's to present) that use their voice in a twangy deep fashion that could only be described as coming from the butt. They can be on top of many types of music, but usually are made up of simple clean power chords. ex. Creed, Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, Seether, Three Doors Down, Pearl Jam, Lifehouse, etc...
Did you hear that crappy butt rock band that tried to sound like Creed?

butt rock

Eighties era 'heavy metal'. Some bands even continued into the early 90's, while scant others exist today (aerosmith). Fashion items include, but aren't limited to, tight spandex (with or without leopard print), colored boas, leg warmers (over the pants), really tight leather jackets with studs in them, denim galore, etc. Hair was generally teased up with an insane amount of hairspray, known as the metal afro. Members wore copious amounts of makeup lending to a very sassy look. I can't believe this was once considered cool.

Butt Rock

I think Butt Rock was coined by older Gen-Xers with a definition like that given above by the writer "Reformed Butt Rocker": Butt Rock is plodding 1970s boogie rock, music of the sort that the characters in the movie "Dazed and Confused" might have listened to. For the people born a decade later, the term came to mean the working class rock of the 1980s--this being the heavy metal that was mainstream enough to get played on MTV in prime time. The common denominator is that the term derides the music that is associated with lower-class stoners, football hooligans and their American equivalents, and other uncouth types. The original definition may be antiquated, but it's still valuable knowledge, linguistically speaking.

Butt Rock

A form of Hard Rock. Originating from mishearing an advertisement for Hard Rock music, since made into a pseudo-official sub-genre of Hard Rock. Popular bands attributed to Butt Rock are Nickle Back, 3 Doors Down, Five Finger Death Punch, Crush 40, and more.

Typically, the lead singers have a very passionate tone when singing, often to an infectious degree. A lot of songs in this sub-sub-genre have very cheesy delivery/lyrics.

3D Sonic games are home to some of the most well-known instance of Butt Rock, becoming a tradition since Sonic Adventure. With classics like "Open Your Heart," "Sonic Boom," "Fist Bump," & "Sonic Heroes."
Other non-band examples are the Dragon Ball Z theme song "Rock The Dragon," and the BattleToads theme.
