Bristol Fashion

Originally a nautical term, Bristol Fashion means "conforming to the highest standards of seamanship." A boat that is maintained in absolutely perfect condition can be described as "shipshape & Bristol Fashion."

The term is frequently applied outside the boating world, however. A cooler stocked with ice cold beers, an old truck that's been tuned to run just right, a steak cooked perfectly, or an immaculate lawn could all be described as being in Bristol Fashion.

"Have you seen Old Man Nelson's lawn? That guy keeps his yard in Bristol Fashion."

Mystery bruises

The bruises that are obtained after a heavy night of drinking, whereby the afflicted forgets how they sustained the injury in question. Can vary from mild to severe, depending on the amount of alcohol/drugs consumed and the type of terrain/landscape that surrounds you.

cruisin for a bruisin

Refers to an individual who is on the path to physical harm, often leading to bruising. Often times this individual may have no idea that harm is imminent. The harm is usually initiated by the future vicitm of that harm, and is often deserved. Feelings of extreme gratification can be felt for the individual inflicting the bruising.

My little brother stole my yankee cap twice yesterday. I told him that he was cruisin for a bruisin. Today he stole it again and I fed it to him. He's still crying but man did it feel good.
