In Korean English, it borrows the Spanish English origin of "friends" or "homies", but in this case, it's like "Secret Santa", but can be done any time of year. It can also be extended to treating the chosen person more attentively or affectionately without them realizing it. It is also possible that the Manito to be oneself.

I was in tears at the end of Manito when John, who is often known to be very stingy, gifted me his entire album collection of BTS!
