Plus, Three 6 Mafia, the first black music group to win an Academy Award for Best Song and the first Hip-Hop artists ever to perform there, are from Memphis. By the way, did you know that Memphis Bleek isn't from Memphis? That's right, he's from New York. After he spent some time in Memphis, he chose his name to be Memphis Bleek. Now what does that tell you about Memphis?

Pretty much the best town in TN!
besides the crime rate, dirty resturants, ppl holding weapons to ur back asking you for money at 3 oclock in the afternoon, crappy schools, the mayor, the drugs, and having ur car stolen twice a year......it has the best BBQ and that prety much makes up for everything!

Memphis is a wager game where you flip a coin (preferably a Tennessee quarter) in which the wagerer wins the bet if the coin lands heads up. This game was played on the streets of Memphis and became popular among the colleges of the area including Fisk University beginning in 2009.

One of the coolest cities in the South. Gets a bad rep for crime, gangs, and drugs. Has a lot of history but not a lot of money to maintain it. Memphis has great food and an awesome music scene. A city that is so amazing yet so awful. The 20th largest city (after we got el paso'd), Memphis is a city where the popular phrase "Location, location, location" really comes into play. Staying away from the airport (unless you have a plane to catch) is probably a good idea, even in broad daylight. Also, any street with someone's full name in it (e.g., Elvis Presley Blvd, Danny Thomas Blvd, etc.) has a tendency to attract poverty, crime and poor sanitation. But if you're smart enough to stay close to the river or the suburbs you can find some pretty interesting things and some great food. Don't go to Graceland; it's expensive and boring. However, Memphis is home to a wonderful zoo, Mud Island, and many national and state parks and museums that its residents often take for granted. It's much better than Knoxville, where the Mountain Dew they drink isn't manufactured by Pepsi Co. Memphis' main problem is a racial divide that is caused by a majority of blacks hating whites because they assume all whites are inherently racist. Yes, I realize I just did the same thing. Get over it.

Unlike what 95% of the people here say, Memphis is a great city. Yes there are bad neighborhoods but those exist in EVERY freakin' city. We no longer have the highest crime rate. I have lived in memphis since I was born and not once have I been shot at, robbed, mugged, threatened, or raped. Our government is messed up but other then that Memphis is a good city to live in. Oh and 80% of the population doesn't even like Elvis and 90% hasn't even visited Graceland. So stop bashing us about him. We have history and who cares if 60% of the population is African American? Thats just stereotypical. If you want to see real crime, move to Somalia idiots.
