Armored Suburb

A communities embodying “dynamic decentralized resilience” providing for their own security, their own power generation, possibly even their own food, by forming local cooperative collectives. Armored Suburbs will deploy and maintain backup generators and communications links; they will be patrolled by civilian police auxiliaries that have received corporate training and boost their own state-of-the-art emergency response systems. The need for Armored Suburbs will become increasingly apparent as the nation state extracts increasing levels of resources while failing to provide basic security, a stable currency, and other essential public goods. The death of the nation state will lead to anarchic responses by many, but will also lead to networked, self-sufficient, local communities that will step into the breach abandoned by the bankrupt nation state. The rise of Armored Suburbs will preserve the Western heritage of political and economic freedom in response to these upcoming challenges.

A related concept is the "resilient community".

The concept of the Armored Suburb is derived from the writing of John Robb, William Lind, and indirectly to Martin van Creveld.
"When the United States became a failed state in the mid-21st century, most of the population died off, but some survived and prospered in Armored Suburbs."

plot armor

Character shields (also known as plot armor or plot shield) are plot devices in films and television shows that prevent important characters from dying or being seriously injured at dramatically inconvenient moments. It often denotes a situation in which it strains credibility to believe that the character would survive.
"The art is nice, but the concept is obviously pretty stupid. Hell, just the fact that they're using the most broken character with plot armor as thick as fangirls' raging hardons for him, from Naruto, against someone who was shown to only be a mediocre bender at the beginning of the series (the form of Zuko used here) should tell you something."

Armored Trooper Votoms

Armored Trooper Votoms - Japanese military science fiction mecha anime series produced by Nippon Sunrise, created & directed by Ryosuke Takahashi & featuring mechanical designs by Kunio Okawara. Following directly in the footsteps of Takahashi's previous series, Fang of the Sun Dougram, VOTOMS continued the trend towards hard science in the mecha anime subgenre.
Armored Trooper Votoms ,
main weapon of the conflict is the common Armored Trooper, a mass-produced humanoid combat vehicle piloted by a single soldier. Both the Armored Troopers & their pilots are also known as VOTOMS (Vertical One-man Tank for Offense & ManeuverS). However, since Armored Troopers have extremely thin armor, & use a highly combustible liquid in their artificial muscle, their pilots have a very low chance of survival .

The series follows a main character named Chirico Cuvie , a special forces Armored Trooper pilot & former member of the Red Shoulder Battalion, an elite force used by the Gilgamesh Confederation in its war against the Balarant Union. Chirico is suddenly transferred to a unit engaged in a suspicious mission, unaware that he is aiding in the theft of secrets from what appears to be his side. Chirico is betrayed & left behind to die, but he survives, is arrested by the Gilgamesh military as a traitor, tortured for information on their homeworld. He escapes, triggering a pursuit extending across the entire series, with Chirico hunted by the army & criminals alike as he seeks the truth behind the operation. He is especially driven to discover the truth of one of the objects he was assigned to retrieve in that operation: a mysterious & beautiful woman who would become his sole clue to unraveling the galactic conspiracy.
