back in 2021, to 4chan's /qa/ board (before it was locked), a wordfilter was added that turned "soy" into "based" any time when you submitted a post containing the word "soy"

"soyjak" turned into "basedjak"
"Look at that soyboy" turned into "look at that basedboy"
"Visit soyjak.party!" turned into "Visit basedjak.party!"

But people had "soy" in their muscle memories so they did not bother with evading the wordfilter, so it just caught on from there and people now started saying basedjak instead of soyjak on their own.

"I made a bait-thread and it got all the basedboys seething!"
