Originated in philly (represent) as a more precise use of the word "jawn" to describe a hand-held pipe used for smoking marijuana among other illicite drugs. It is not necessary for this pipe to be big enough to be able to be packed with at least a dimebag of marijuana, but it is more precise that way.
