posuer

The CORRECT spelling of, though not as common as, poser. ironicly, the word's history is much like it's definition. a posuer is someone who desides to be something, act and/or dress a certain way to fit in or be cool, not because of what it stands for. This can apply to almost any walk of life, including but not limited to: punk, goth, emo, hardcore, skateboarding, snowboarding, and a certain band.

How to spot a posuer: will look like the thing they are posing as, but almost always to a greater extent. If you ask them about the subject, they will go on and on about how cool it is, while giving little or no background about it. May often call YOU a posuer. Specifics:

Punk: Will wear band shirts like avril lavigne (dead give away, not as common) or Good Charolette, will wear ragged or ripped clothes, although it is apparently new or from Abercrombie. Will talk about anarchy all day, or about how much they hate facists.

Goth: more bondage straps than a sex-shop. more saftey pins than a fabric shop. Will talk about manson all day, and about how much they cut themselves, hate preps, adults, and life in general (but dont kill themselves...).

Emo: listens to Dashboard confessional. period. also likes bands like the get up kids and simple plan. wears oversized wool sweaters or scarves, and if spoken to, will cry. will cry with no provocation at all. will do all this because they think it will get them pity sex.

Skateboarders: will wear brands like: Volcom stone, etnies, element, quicksilver, or other 'posuer' brands. just go to your local skate shop for more info on these brands. will carry their skateboards everywhere, even though they obviously have no scratches on them, or worse, scrape their boards against the curb for the effect. listens to pop punk. when at the skatepark, will not actually ride the skateboard. when spoken to, will get fidgety and maybe run.

snowboarders: harder to spot, but will sit outside their house with goggles on to get a goggle tan. will claim all the crazy stuff they can do, or how they sent a video to burton. etc.

poser

a word often used by people who are insecure about themselves so they call everyone but themselves and their so called "friends" "posers". in my area, it is mostly used by skater kids whose pants are way too tight to describe someone who wears skateboard shoes (etnies, dc, vans etc) but doesn't skate. by that logic, people who wear running shoes but don't run are "posers", people who wear nike basketball shoes but don't play basketball are "posers", people who wear adidas stan smiths but don't play tennis are "posers", the list goes on. the funny thing is, most of these people who call other people "posers" can't spell poseur correctly. yes, there are people who are, in fact, poseurs, but a lot of the people who get called "posers" don't deserve it.

Situation 1, poseur calls someone a "poser":

Bill: DO U SK8?!!?? UR WEARIN NIKE 6.0'S

Joe: That's none of your fucking business.

Bill: O MY GOD U R A FUKIN POSER!!!!!!!!!!!11111

Joe: Dude, by your logic, people who wear New Balance but don't run are "posers".


Bill: .......



Situation 2:

Mandy: OH EM EFF GEE I LUV MY NEW $80 ABERCROMBIE JEANS! I'M SO PREPPY LOL


Samantha: No, you're not a fucking prep, you're a fucking douchebag who has too much money and spends too much money on buying status symbols.

One who changes themself completely because they either want to fit in, or because they want to be "different" then everyone else which is just conforming.

When Summer started Sarah wanted to be preppy but by September she was wearing all black and called herself a punk. She is a total poseur.

A person who frequently visits local or college newspaper websites in order to post inflammatory comments. Commonly associated with political or opinion pieces and aged adults who post on college newspaper websites. A troll.

Don't pay attention to "Registered Independent". She's just a crazy serial poster who is trying to spew her political views to any student who'll listen.

Indian Poster

When someone posts a comment on someone else's Facebook page then deletes it after thinking better of the post, or thinking that they look like an idiot or a ritard.

dude, come ON.....

If you acctually like what you say you like then your not a poser
exanple- if sombody were to say that they liked Green Day, Avril, and Good Charlotte, and they ment it, then technically they arnt a poser, they are being themselves

Another thing

Lets say some steriotypically "goth" girl/boy were to have this absolute love of eminem, and like ownd all of the albums and had a few t-shirts and stuff like that, people would call him/her a poseur. Because he/she didnt fit in with the steriotype.

IF somebody is acctually expressing themself it does NOT make then a poser not to fit in with anyones expectations
that totally defeats the entire purpose of the word.

SO
A poser is ACCTUALLY somone who does not liek what they say they do
example: Some preppy girl decides to wear all black just becasue she wants to be "non conforming" however, she still listens to hip hop and goes sailing in her tiny bikini

goth poseur

A goth Poseur is a person who just dresses up as a goth, just for the attention. When they go out, they spend ages covering themselves in white makeup and eyeliner, and when they're lazing around inside, listening to Gwen Stefani, they wear a pink tracksuit.
They dont understand about goths,or that it is a lifestyle. They just want the stares. And you dont understand goths either if you think that all of them worship satan, cut themselves, and cry endlessly.
Poseur goths do it for the stares. Proper goths do it because thats just how they want to live and dress, and dont give a shit about what anyone else thinks.

Goth poseur : I'm looking for a DAAAARK picture to put up in my DAAAAARK bedroom, because my life is DAAAARKNESS!!!!

Goth: Hey..you were in here yesterday, buying some fake Burberry crap, right?
