Retainer

A piercing stud, generally clear, used to hold a pierced hole open so as not to be seen by others. Commonly used for hiding a piercing during work and interviews.

A : "And do you have any piercings?"
B : "Well can you see any?"
A : "No I can't"
B : "Then nope"

reading game

The Reading Game is a question and answer game built by you, the quality of the questions and the contents of the quizzes is up to the users. It is a Moodle module to be released later this year 2013. It leverages game mechanics to make the participants' interactions with the game, fun. The quality of the questions and quizzes is up to the participants who receive points for their efforts in both asking and answering questions. Participants can also rate questions, allowing them to directly impact the contents of review quizzes, while also activating a secondary reward called 'stars' for those participants whose questions are deemed outstanding by their peers. The acts in the game form the basis of continuous formative feedback and meta-cognition.

retained firefighter

A part time (volunteer) firefighter. They’re also known as retards, have zero capacity to retain any firefighting knowledge and have fuck all experience actually fighting any real fires (although they can spin a massive yarn about a big fire last year, even though they never went to it). They spend a lot of time playing dress ups and pretend to be real firefighters. Retained firefighters are always seen in public in some sort of fire related t-shirt, especially when not on duty. They can be identified by the 1990’s pager on their hip and the fact that they’ll tell you that they’re a fireman within 0.4 seconds of the start of ANY conversation. The only experience they really get is that of pressing the code 2 acknowledged button on the MDT.

My mate is a retained firefighter, he’s pager never goes off, but he’s always in uniform. Gosh he really loves those code 2’s.
