Democracy is a primitive state of mind, or rather mindlessness, giving "power to the populace" from greek. By definition if there was a developed alien species on Mars, democracy would brand it as non-democratic automatically and wage a full-scale war against it till total extinction of one of the unlucky sides.

If people dont fight for it, no matter who is in office, everything and everyone will get shut down or locked down, and only the people shutting and locking everything down will have any rights.
