(verb) to take a reading is to check out a particular situation in a small way, in order to get an accurate idea of someone's character, usually for the future when the stakes may be higher. The person who is curious may do this deliberately -- or accidentally, for example by observing how a certain person treats others.
Friend #1: "Should I loan Alex my car?"
Friend #2: "Didn't you take a reading last year, when he borrowed your bike and returned it all beat up?"
OR
Friend #3: "Yeah, David definitely seemed like the man of my dreams, but I had to take a reading when he was rude to our waitstaff."
Friend #4: "OMG, how pathetic!"

Get the The person who's reading this mug.Reading done outside of school, usually by choice. After being mandatory in elementary school, pleasure reading was (therefore, perhaps?) regarded as uncool in middle school but trendy in high school.
Pleasure reading makes other people look like intellectuals, but doing my pleasure reading on some type of online dictionary did nothing for me.

Get the Late Nite Reading mug.Late Nite Reading also known as LNR.
"Late Nite Reading is hitting the pop-punk scene with a youthful vigor not seen in ages. With a majority of the band being just sophomores in highschool, LNR packs a punchy, hook-driven mature pop sound at an unheard of age. Backed by their recently released studio EP, LNR is forcing their way into the limelight as one of the youngest professional acts in the business.
Late Nite Reading started out of necessity. Not really, but you get what we're saying. One day, not too long ago, (the start of the summer 2009, actually) Brady Szuhaj (Bassist) approached Dalton Wixom (Singer) with the idea of doing a pop punk band together. They plunked around with the idea, wrote some songs, and recruited a drummer. The trio had a practice together, and immediately fell in love. A few more practices later, they added a lead guitarist and they were ready to record. So they did that. The Summer of 2010 they released their first 5 song EP, "Cycles and Sounds". Since that time the roster has changed slightly. Jacob Benner now mans the drums and lends his amazing drum skills to the effort and Aaron Severance has taken over the role of lead guitar with his solid guitar work."-reverbnation.com

Get the Late Nite Reading mug.Phrase often used on internet message boards to indicate that the poster felt that the previous post addressing him was too long, and therefore he did not read it.
These long posts generally contain a variety of carefully and maturely presented facts on the topic at hand, intended to provide an argument against the poster's views. These posts are generally too long and too content-filled for today's average Joe Internet who is always on the go and never posts more than two lines at a time.
