It's the birth place of jesus (Muslims and Christians believe in jesus not sure about other religions)

The Arab world adopted this term for the Arabs in that land to punish the Jews who retuned (after millennia in exile) to their 3500 year old ancestral homeland.

Palestinians were the Jews in Israel before 1948.
