Racial Apathy

Racial apathy is a form of emotional neglect toward Black, Indigenous, and people of color rooted in the biased belief that we do not feel pain. When people are viewed as "less human", it becomes easier to neglect their pain.

racial capitalism

A social and economic system of removing social and economic value using markers associated with race (e.g. such as dark skin or people of African descent) while attributing social and economic value using markers associated with race (e.g., white/light skin or people of European descent).

Example - Wealth is assigned to predominately white U.S. neighborhoods at higher rates than predominately Black, Hispanic, or Latinx neighborhoods. As more middle and upper class White families move into neighborhoods (gentrification) the property values increase but the reverse happens when Black families move into formally homogenized White neighborhoods.

Racial capitalism has assigned value to Whiteness in that those of European descent are often given lower interest rates on loans than those who are not.

Racial Identity

A term that protects cultural assimilators when people speak out against them. Supposedly, defined as the race you feel the most connected to. A person who adopts a racial identity might begin to: speak stereotypically, dress in outdated/ stereotypical clothing, change their physical appearance artificially, or state that they want to be reborn into their racial identity. Typically, but not as the exception, adopters of a racial identity are White American teenagers. Certain laws have been put into place to make it harder to protect your own culture from them. Racial peacekeepers

The preachers, pastors and community leaders who always rush out after a racially charged incident against african-americans to calm people and direct them to forgive or embrace their attackers. These individuals decide to represent all african-americans in the community, but often act hypocritically for their own benefit to establish a national profile and win influence among the african-american community for future church donations. They are noticeably absent when the violence does not have racial overtones.
