The Aphelion of the cometary orbit towards Bloomsday on June 16, the day of days for fans of James Joyce’s _Ulysses_. December 15 is thus Gloomsday, the furthest calendrical point from Bloomsday. Gloomsday is said to have been marked on Salisbury plain by the ancients, who used megalithic alignments to predict the birth of Joyce thousands of years into the future. Remarkably, they were only half an hour out when he finally arrived into the world on 2 February 1882.
