Hill Hugger is a slang derogatory word in the English language directed towards the South of America. Deeming them as “confederates and hillbillies” the word is very offensive to someone from Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Meant to make fun of country boys.

Get the Jack Hillsmug. From the title of a number of very active debating/shitposting groups on Facebook “This is a weird hill to die on” and a few variations on that title. A “hill” is a metaphor for an opinion or argument, it is an opinion worth defending.
The hill is guarded or defended by the keeper of the opinion at various degrees of strength according to the:
a) the verbal powers of the defender
b) the convictions of the defender
c)the grit and ability to endure a humiliating bashing
but even more important than these they are most helped by how many people who carry the same convictions as the defender and who are willing to assist them in their defending of their hill. Strength in numbers
