This trick is made of two words. Varial and Kickflip. A varaible would be a complete 180 horizantal rotation of the board. A kicklip would be a complete rotation of the board. When the board rotates you should see the underside. When these two manuevers combine you have formed a Varial Kickflip. That was a freakin' huge definition and I'm surprised you stuck around for the whole thing.

A skateboarding flip trick similar to a kickflip. The difference is that there is no pop (ollie.) The trick is usually preformed coming out of a grind. The board essentially falls off of the object (ledge/etc.) and flips.
Popularized by such skaters as Rick Howard and Marc Johnson. And is not to be mistaken for a "pressure flip" which is an entirely different trick.

Did you see MJ's opener in Fully Flared? He did a grind on a bent over parking post with a pressure kickflip out.

A kickflip done when ever you get new things that you use to skate e.g deck, shoes, wheels etc. that essentially detirmines how your life with that new thing will be.
Simmilar to the way that people hundreds of years ago would look at arbitrary things like cloud patterns to decide if the harvest will be good that year.

Person A: "Oh man I got new thunder trucks and a new deck the other day."
Person B: "Nice, how good was the kickflip test though?"
Person A: "It was perfect man my time with these are going to be a breeze."
