Yanks

<noun> Colloquial

1. Term used by Southern Americans to refer to a Northern American.

2. Term used by foreign nations, chiefly Britain and Australia to refer to Americans.

==> The term is thought to derive from Dutch settlers in the 1600's referring to the English colonials as 'Jan Kees' (John Cheese) which entered our language with the spelling 'Yankees,' as that is how it would sound in Dutch. 'Yanks' is simply a shortened form of it.
English Guy: "Those bloody Yanks."

Yankside

A simple maincore replacement for State-side, which actually makes no sense at all. Why? Because although folk from the USA like to use this expression to mean 'back in the USA', it could mean any State whatsoever.

Yankside immediately transmits the idea of the United States of America. Additioanlly as it is similar to but not the same as saying or writing State-side, it is instantly recognized as what it is: Being in the USA
"I've had it with Europe, I'll be Yankside in two days" said Cuthbert to his girlfriend.

I find that when Yankside, things are immediately safer, more American and less Communist

yanks

what the british, australians, new zealander, etc. call americans.

the yanks really are a diverse lot. some are smart, some are dumb. some are hot, some are fat (where i live, the fat ones are mostly mexican). they tend to be ridiculed by the world because of the poor excuse of a president they had to deal with from 2000-2008 and the fiasco of a war he started.
i moved to san diego from cairns 7 years ago, and i must say, the yanks aren't as bad as we all think and say. most of them are quite friendly, and intelligent, with a touch of "american pride" that i find quite comical. and believe it or not, they do use the metric system, and about 90% of them hate bush.
