Wicca is an earth based religion in which a person normally worships a god and goddess. Some cast spell which are simaliar to Christian prayer. There is no one path. All follow the Wiccan Law "Harm none, do what ye will."

A pagan religion that focuses around the god and goddess. Wiccans do not have a bible although, some wiccans do keep a "book of shadows". Books of shadows are basically journals filled with expiriences, prayers or spells, and sometimes even things like pictures or poetry. Wiccans do not practice "Black Magic". Wiccans abide by the rule "If it harms no one do as you will". Basically, wiccans believe that if it harms no one ..you can do it, but if it does harm someone then bad things will happen to the wrong-doer threefold. Some wiccans practice alone and others chose to join covens. Covens are groups of wiccans. Wiccan and witch are two seperate words. witch-someone that uses magic. wiccan-someone that believes in the religion wicca and practices magic but abides by the rules of the religion wicca. Contrary to popular belief, wicca is not the oldest religion. Wicca came about roughly, around the 1960s. Although, wicca does draw inspiration from the oldest religions known to man. Please read a lot if you are interested in Wicca. It helps tremendously.

Wicca is a peaceful religion. No, people who practice Wicca are NOT Satan worshipers. They don't even believe in Satan. Nor do they believe in hell. They believe in the God and the Goddess. They respect nature, and all living creatures. It is a positive religion. Some people who practice Wicca don't always use spells; sometimes they just like the spiritual side of Wicca. People who practice Wicca do not use black magick, cause they're smart enough to know it will come back to them three fold.

Wicca is a new-age religion. It is not just for teenagers. It can seem that way because of the teenage tendancy to explore new religions and ideas. Wiccans, people who follow Wicca, can worship as a solitary, or in a group called a coven. They believe in the God and the Goddess. Some Wiccans choose to see the divine as just these two or as Gods and Goddesses from various panthenons. The Wiccan temple is often just a temporary magick circle established through a ritual process. People often have an altar and other tools including an athame or perhaps a wand. The wand is not used for the "harry potter purpose" but to direct energy and in place of a wand, fingers and sticks work just as well. My wand, is actually a stick of wood that I carved with special care.
Many people try to suggest that Wiccans are just following a book or telivsion shows. Actually many Wiccans dont wish to tolerate such "fluffy bunnies" that think that it is only a TV show.
Wicca is a valid spiritual path that regards nature to be very special.
Many Wiccans have a book of shadows that is a journal that you can use to record spells you have used, experiences with the divine, or other things that you feel affect you spirituality
Some wiccans but not all, practice magick. You do not have to be Wicca if you practice magick. What makes you wiccan is that you worship the Goddess and the God, celebrate the eight sabats, regard the earth as a holy special thing, harm none (or at least try your best to) and to continue to learn and explore your spirituality your whole life through.

Wicca is an Earth-based religion the falls under the broad category of "Pagan". The people who follow Wicca are known as Wiccans. Those Wiccans who chose to practice magic (or magick) with their faith can be known as "Witches" or Wiccan Witches". The word "witch" also covers the male population. Wicca followers are not only women, but there are male followers as well.
Wiccans believe in one central Divine force that come into the two main forms of a Goddess and a God. They are both regarded as equal, although some feel more drawn to one than to the other. Wiccans also have the freedom of working with or worshipping many other deities if they please.
Wiccans, as well as other Pagans, celebrate holidays that go along with the Earth such as the Summer and Winter Soltice and the Spring and Fall Equinox. Some also have small celebrations on full moons. When the church was trying to spread Christianity, they made most of their holidays near Pagan holidays so the people would feel more comfortable switching religions. (In fact, most scholars agree that Jesus was not born on December 25th. They just use that day to celebrate his birth becasue it was an old Pagan holiday called Saturnalia or Yule.)
If you trace back many symbols of Christmas for instance, such as the mistletoe, evergreen tree, wreath, colors of red and green, most of them have pagan roots.
Although there is a lot of freedom in Wicca to worship and believe what you please, there are still two "laws" or "guidelines" that they follow and believe. The first one is called the Wiccan Rede and in simple terms states that you can do whatever you want as long as it brings no harm to yourself or others. The other law that they follow and believe in is the Law of Karma. (whatever goes around comes around sorta thing.) The Law of Karma says that whatever energies you put out into the universe, whether negative or postive, will come back to you 3 fold.

Wicca is an interesting religion that no one has to be scared of if they take the time out to learn.

A wiccan is someone who clearly doesn't understand that Urban Dictionary is meant to be funny, and makes entries trying really really hard to make sure everyone knows how PEACEFUL AND LOVING WICCA IS and HOW THEY AREN'T REALLY SATAN WORSHIPERS, SRSLY. This is true of course, as Wiccans worship dirt and trees rather than the devil. They also think they can perform magic.
Most Wiccans know very little about their religion. They are attracted to it because it claims to be peaceful, yet they are unaware that it's largely based on ancient Celtic religions that used to burn people alive as sacrifices. They also lack the logic to see that not all religions can be true, so it makes very little sense to borrow from a ton of them.
The Wicca religious population is made up mostly of fat women and angsty teenagers with semi-goth style and a longing for attention. Many like to go to school wearing their ceremonial robes, which are actually strictly made for formal occasions according to Wiccans who actually know stuff. They thrive on people looking at them funny, so they can chuckle to themselves about how ignorant they are or go and yell at them for being "narrow minded bigots." They're also ridiculously politically correct about themselves and will get extremely offended by just about anything (like Halloween), but won't hesitate to insult other religions like Christianity or Judaism.
In short, Wicca is a stupid fad which should die out soon enough.

"What's with that girl over there? She's fat, wears robes, looks like a goth, and is going on about magic and Edward Cullen and some horned god. She also thinks magic is spelled with a 'k'."
"Oh, that's just Margaret the Wiccan."

Well, I've been reading this stuff and I'm never refering any of my friends to this site again because of ignorant people. I found some to piss me off. Thank God that I have youtube or I'd still be nuts. I might be Wiccan, but I'm studying so I don't know yet. But what I do know is that I will deubunk each and every screwed up theory you people have here. Exceptions are the first few posts.
"A silly religion that involves angsty teenagers buying lots of overpriced and useless equipment."
I personally don't believe in buying runes and setting up an alter, but most of it is for a visualization process. If you can see it, it's easier. Just don't go blowing all your money on stuff your heart gives you people. But brooms are used to visualise clearing the room of negative energy. I think you could get a broom for like 2 dollars at a Home and Garden store and it works fine. Plus, you'll have a clean room. And wands are used to poin energy. All you need is a finger. Most of the stuff people buy, you can use with your own heart. It just speeds up the visualization process.
"1.
E: I'M HARRY POTTERS #1 FAN!!!
C: So you like spells and stuff?
E: YEAH I'M IN WICCA!"
Just because someone loves the Harry Potter fantasy doesn't make them able to do spells and crap. If they claim to, and base their religion on HP or some TV show, they're usually Fluffy Bunny Wiccans who will probably abandon the religion when they find out it's not all about casting spells and just connecting with nature "Eww I just like Buffy! I hate icky dirt and slime mold!"
"1. "Hey, Bob, wanna go out and get drunk and get some pussy?"
"Sorry, dude, no can do. I'm Wiccan."
Just because you're Wiccan does not mean you can't go and enjoy your sex life. They don't shun sexual things like other religions because it's completely natural.
"2.
L: Oh, it's raining. The water spirits must be happy.
P: No, it's probably because the percipitation in the atmosphere is so condensed that it falls."
Oh PULEASE... *rolls eyes* People would have to be stuck under a rock and have no education to believe the "water spirits" you are speaking of are making it rain. Wiccans are close to nature. Wiccans aren't stupid. We believe in the Earth's natural laws and love the spirit which is inside of it not the thing itself.
"2. "Hey, let's go burn potions in the woods and bury bags of burnt shit for luck!"
"But isn't that almost paganistic?"
"No, we'll just call ourselves Wiccan."
That doesn't make any sense and is completly idiotic. Wiccans are not like that and the only luck you get is what you give your self.
"Totally made up religion conceived of by drugged out 60's hippes who were into Tolkien and D&D!
The religion of militant lesbians."
The religion was around longer than you were born. So how could it be made by drugged out hippies? It's an old religion. Dating back farther than Christianity and other major religions. And as for homosexuals, the religion conciders it not to be bad and so do I. But just because they are in the religion does not make them gay.
Well that's about all I can say about you mislead people. I don't know what fairy doors are. O_o But I certainly know that Wicca is a very accepting religion on alot of subjects. If any of you all want any resources to see it isn't the "devils spell" (like we believe in devils or hell) go to Wicca.com or just search around. Take what feels right to you and leave the rest behind. That is how any belief should be picked out.

Wicca: I love animals, trees and looking up into the sky at night because every part of life has a spark of the divine in it.
