label

a label...a word given to someone based on who they are, what they like, or their appearance. someone who is in a punk band is a punk and therefore shouldn't even consider liking the girl that is more into sports. labeling is a way of making everyone fit into a group, but what it really does is leave everyone out.

label

a label is typical human nature
generally people don't like to be labeled, but it's often half their fault. if emo is the only thing you give off, expect to be called it
but labeling isn't a good thing to do, no matter how "emo" or whatever someone is. labeling is judgement
a label is calling someone prep because they're wearing an abercrombie tshirt

label

A label is how we identify something. Often used on soup cans, jars, boxes, and other containers.

In middle and high school, often used to define cliques. There types of labels, such as prep, punk, goth, nerd, skater, etc. that are often determined by how one dresses or the music one listens to (as opposed to their personality) and are inaccurate and may be considered offensive by some people. These types of labels also often cause people who relate with seperate groups of people to call other groups poseur, which then causes even more social problems in middle and high schools. People who choose to label themselves are often insecure. If you're truely happy with who you are a label is not important, and you probably won't care whether you're labeled or not. You know who you are, and that's what matters.
1. The jar full of blueberries is labeled 'blueberries'
2. "Look at those goths over there! They're so WEIRD!"
3. "Those girls with the Slipknot T-shirts on are such poseurs!"

Label

Dictionary definition: a short word or phrase descriptive of a person, group, intellectual movement, etc.
Urban definition: Almost the same as the diciontary definition, but specified more toward a person or group's style or behavior. Examples would be: prep, goth, emo, punk, skater, scene, nerd, jock, etc. A common phrase relating to labels is "Labels are for soup cans," which pretty much means "Don't label people."

But according to the dictionary, you're supposed to label people. And that doesn't just mean "prep" or "emo." What most people don't realize is that everything from gender to religion falls under the category of "labels." So lesson one is, don't think all labels "are for soup cans."

Also, even the labels that are like "prep" or "emo," are they really that bad? I'd agree that they're bad if somebody were to say "I hate all preps," because obviously, not all preps are the same. But if somebody were to just say "I'm a prep," it's not doing any harm. Someone who willingly calls themself by a label must not think badly of labels. Even if somebody calls you a label that you aren't, it doesn't really matter what they think, as long as they don't judge you on it. So, lesson two is, it doesn't really matter what label you are, it just matters how you consider yourself.
-I've noticed you wear a lot of eyeliner and seem to be very interested in alternative bands. Are you emo?
-ZOMG LABELZ R 4 SOUP CANS!
-Um, ok.
