Chyle

Black American Vernacular English. It has been used for centuries, but rose to prominence with the song “O-o-h Child” by the Five Stairsteps. The proper slang spelling of the world “child”. It can be sentence starter, a comma, or the end of a sentence. It is both a statement as well as a question. Chyle was born in the late 2000s on forums and message boards when people were unable to differentiate the term “chile….” from the actual country Chile. To avoid this confusion and the arguments that ensue some black people will say chyle instead and it means the same thing as chile.

“You see these gas prices?
“ Chyle…”

“Chyle… Did you hear that new Kendrick album?”

“Yeah he really fell off”

“I’m saying”

“You should just quit that job it ain’t no good for you”

“No chyle. I got bills to pay”
