Also known as Blacksmith City because of metalware such as guns, brass kettles and iron hunting tools that were once produced in the city. Other nicknames for Awka include AW (pronounced A-dub) City and A-Town. The capital city of Anambra state, and the third most liveable city in southeastern Nigeria after Enugu and Owerri, Awka is home to many luxury hotels, residential estates, schools and hospitals. The city is also the centre of Anambra's economic, political, and social activity.
