His family described him as athletic, excelling at various sports—including football, basketball, swimming, and soccer and often competing with kids older than him.

On November 2nd 2014, Tamir, a 12 year old boy was killed in Cleveland, Ohio by a police officer. Tamir was carrying a replica toy gun. Tamir was killed two second after the officer stepped out of his car.
