Emo is not what lots of people think it is. Emo is purely a form of punk music. The topics covered in it, such as cutting, depression, suicide, etc, are often taken by fans of the music, and they end up wearing black, cutting, hating themselves and eventualy even killing themselves.

It is sensless. Emo is music, right? Not a bloody subculture!

Emo is music! Don't get me wrong though, I love emo music.

A musical movement that started in the 80's and slowly declind until its corporate death in the mid 90's. Bands such as The Rites of Spring, Texas Is The Reason and Kid Dynamic started the genere, the first of which being the first to use the phrase in 1984. Later in the 80's, the band Brai commercialized on the genre, taking advantage of the underground loyalty the poetic form of punk rock had genreated over the years. They began to use stereotypical, self abusive and exgirlfriend drama filled lyrics in place of heartfelt emotion, and th eband began to not copose a song beyond a few chords and a catchy hook. Soon after, band got more and more attention as the genre "Emo" died and "Scene" music began. Emo is not a subculture, scene is. That is what most people on here are defining. Emo was a movement in the 80's, that is ALL.

1. An extremely annoying fad for all non-emos, and unhealthy for emos. Basically, a less sinister and evil goth with a few aspects of chav thrown in. They are pretty much all either depressed, or pretend to be, and as such take antidepressants, or try to kill themselves, or pretend to. They wear ill-fitting jeans and sweatshirts, usually striped, and have silly hair. Their favourite colours are pink and black, and they regard everyone else as inferior. They know nothing about real life because they spend most of their time locked in their room with a knife listening to My Chemical Romance and other rubbish like that. They claim to be in touch with their emotions, but are totally incapable of anything other than complete misery.
2. Miserable and depressing whiny form of music that says how life is rubbish and how INSERT ARTISTS NAME HERE just wants to get away by killing themselves, although unfortunately for the rest of us they never do.

A style of dress and music adapted generally by white teenagers of the U.S and U.K. Used by many people(many of the definitions on this topic being evidence of this)as something to hate and bitch about with little justification. The dress style includes drain pipe trousers, black hair with a long fringe swept to the side, sripes, the colour black, also the colour white but only when combined with black. Many talented band are hated because of there emoness examples including My Chemical Romance, Hawthorne Heights, Fall Out Boy etc. Emo stereotypes include heavy depression, self harm and self obsession. In the majority of cases these accusations are false

Emo. Who knows what it really is, like honestly? Some say its a genre of music, "fags" who sing about there failure relationships, and mostly, people who wear tight pants, strum a guitar to a suicidal song and cry all day. But who is to say that any of these definitions are wrong? We all have different opions; and noone can say one's opion is "stronger" than another opion(in this case)fore, I cannot find a legible source and or person who made the word up. Moreover, if you do find a source, there is still no real evidence to where it really came from(If this was so, Im sure it would be listed in dictionary.com).

Some of the different things that people label as "emo" are(Note, some labeled/accurate definitions may not be included, and im just giving the general examples):
1. Emotional people
2. Bands such as silverstein
3. Outcats of society
4. People who wear certain clothes/and or styles to prove a point to society
5. People who dont take care of them selves, and where rugged clothing
6.Sensitive people
7. Other
