A right of passage by the Yale men's Varsity Soccer team, to ascertain the courage, determination, and perseverance of perspective incoming players.
How it is performed:
1. Every individual partaking in the "BL Challenge" (pronounced "shallanj") must fill a solo cup (at least 16 ounces) to the brim with beer (whatever happens to be in the keg, no necessarily BL)
2. Players must then take their place around the main floor pong table in Sigma Nu (37 High Street New Haven CT).
3. On the count of 3 all members wail out the battle cry of "SHAAALLLAAANNNJJ" before downing the entire cup as fast as they possibly can, the loser is then formally known as the bitch of the team.
The loser of the inaugural BL challenge (performed on Monday April 19 2010) was the player formerly known as "Fogal".
IMPORTANT NOTE: SHIRTS ARE FORBIDDEN WHILE PERFORMING SAID CHALLENGE.

"Boys this weekend is about being ambassadors for the program, its not about seeing how much Bud Light these guys can drink. It's not the time to take the Bud Light Challenge."

1.
John: hey, let's go across the street and drop in on Bob.
Jim: I don't think he's home right now.
John: but his lights are on
Jim: yeah, but I saw him leave a while ago, he must've forgot to turn off his lights when he left again, he does that a lot.
John: damn, I was really looking forward to having a few beers and some great conversation with him!
2. Joe Biden is literally the definition of 'the lights are on, but nobody's home.' I mean he has a brain, (or wait does he?), I mean at least I think he has a brain, but we never see it used and it doesn't work properly most of the time, he's alive and here physically but mentally he's dead and gone.

it's used when your s/o is just treating u like a traffic light. meaning if he was the car and u were the traffic light, he would just stop by/spend time with u for a short time or designated time, then leaves as soon as u turn green (turning green meaning u become comfy w him).
damn, after 2 weeks of talking to him, he left me like how someone sped against a red lighg and now i feel like a traffic light/🚦 tbh.
