To fake punch someone is to appear as though you are striking them, but not actually connecting. The recipient of the fake punch acts dramaticaly as though they were really punched. The intention of the fake punch is to draw attention to ones selves.

Jamie fake-punched Chris and he fell to the ground thus drawing much attention.

I am going to fake punch Chris in the pub.
