One who engages in the process of systematically dating an obscene amount people in short span of time. This definition encompasses but is not limited to internet dating, bar dating, long distance flirtations, phone service dating, blind dating, expiration dating, match making, one night stands, friends with benefits, and personal ad surfing. Can be considered a politically correct alternative to word "player" both with and without a negative connotation.

You do not want to date my roommate, that guy is such a serial dater.

Good luck getting anything meaningful out of her, she's too much into serial dating.

Schrödinger's Date

Where single guy and single girl, who don't normally spend time alone together, agree to "hang out" and do something fun together for the first time, yet both carefully avoid the word "date". Whether it was in fact a date will be determined only after the fact, once they see how it goes. Until then, the event is a strange quantum superposition, simultaneously both date and non-date. This allows both parties to avoid potential embarrassment.

It could be a date or it could be just a hang out, we won't know till it's over. It's a Schrödinger's Date.

Two people getting together for an activity when the possibility of romance between them has been broached but not ruled out. Since the exploration of romance is the purpose of a date, merely asking someone out on a date is sufficient to broach the subject. Dates may or not continue once a couple have entered into a romantic relationship. The word "date" may be used to identify a get together between two people not romantically involved, but this usage is meant to convey irony, since such a meeting is not a date in the true sense of the word.

Yeah, Mike and I went on a date last night. He's cute, but I'm not sure if I want to get involved with him or not.

The time/effort involved in chatting up/entertaining your girlfriends nosy mother/ suspecting father/ pesky younger brother/ sister when you go to her place to pick her up for a date.

Male 1 : Im off buddy. Gotta pick my girlfriend up at 9.00 for our movie tonight.
Male 2 : Wait up dude. its only 7.30. what will you do going so early ?
