Phonk - originally known as Memphis rap from the 90s. Known for its Darkside hip hop sounds, and sinister lyrics.

Phonk has created multiple sub genres from the sounds, lyrics and beats originally produced. 808 cowbell is the most popular which was used in the song

Modern "phonk" can be divided into a few sub genres:

Phonk - any type of music that's of heavy influence of 90s memphis phonk

Drift phonk - drum and base fast pace beats with heavy use of the 808 cowbell

House phonk - 90s house music beats mixed with 90s Memphis rap beats and lyrics

Phonk much like all music has changed and divided its genres. Rock has indie rock. Techno has dubstep. Phonk has other phonk music...

Drift Phonk

"Drift phonk", a subgenre of phonk, emerged in the late-2010s. It is characterized by the use of high bass, cowbells and distorted sounds. Drift phonk videos often use clips of drifting and street racing cars. The genre quickly gained traction through the TikTok app in 2020. The subgenre's early pioneers include KU$HN!R, SpaceGhostPurrp, DJ Yung Vamp.
