Neopets

Neopets is an insanely addicting virtual pet website. Even though it's full of ads (ever heard of the AdBlock Firefox extension?), it's still fun. Yes, there are n00bs who beg and scam, but GUESS WHAT? You can report and block offending noobs, especially those who beg/scam/harass via Neomail. Think you got hacked? You were probably looking at online porn and a keylogger sniped your typing history--and maybe your PIN, too! And as someone mentioned in an earlier entry, the faeries are a bit scantily clad...but so is Tinkerbell and Ariel The Little Mermaid! In fact, TNT )theneopetsteam is being quite appropriate compared to Disney. Keep it in perspective, people. And guess what? I've never been frozen for posting on the NeoBoards. The only people who get frozen are nublets who spam/harass/cheat/etc. You can chat on the BDC (BattleDome Chat) and have reasonably intelligent conversations with the people on the "restock and chat boards". And as far as the randomness of the current restocking system--patience grasshopper.
A typical Neopets noob neomail looks like this,Hay, i lost everytin, wut u help me.Gimme ur trades.Or like this,I kno away 2 get 1 bil nps quickie. gimme ur pw n email.

Neopets Avatar Chat

The Neopets Avatar Chat (abbreviated AC), or, technically the "Avatars/Neosignatures board" is the first board listed on the NeoBoards page. (it's arranged alphabetically.) The board is well-known as the following topics:

1. Lending Neopets or items for avatars, usually in exchange for collateral or another avatar item or pet.

2. When a new avatar comes out, many n00bs spamming by posting topics asking how to get it.

3. A place to invite people to private Avatar Guilds.

4. A somewhat replacement for the Neopets General Chat. There are many chat boards on the AC where people chat, rarely about avatars.

5. A board for dumb games like Avatar Simon or Avatar Survivor.

Neopets Avatar Chat

A place where no-lives go to lurk and flame others because they have nothing else to do besides sulk in there broken homes. Usually it consists of a bunch of individuals who attempt to collect virtual avatars, create supposedly "elite guilds" and brag when they get lent ELUSIVE ITEM AVATARS. They tend to overuse the "~" (tilde) and add "-eh" to the end of words. They use bright fonts that could make an epileptic kid seize. This is also a place known for frequent, but failed CG and Scamming attempts.
Example 1:

Person 1: OMG MY FQDEH JUST GOT SCAMMED ~~~ NO SYMPATHY PLEASE :* ~ eh

Person 2: OMG NO ONE GIVES A CRAP U LOSER DON'T LEND. As U CAN SEE DEY HAV NO AVS ANYWAY STUPID DON'T LEND! ~ :* eh

Example 2:

Person 1: Hey I'm cool!

Person 2: No you aren't omg you failure to lfie kajsdfka ~ -_-

Example 3:

Neopets avatars

A very popular part of the online game, Neopets, Neopets avatars are little squares that appear next to your name on the chat boards (and they are also shown when your username is looked up in the Search bar). They display an image, or an image with text. Most of the time, they are animated. There are many ways to get them: they include equipping your Neopet with a certain weapon, using a Morphing Potion on your Neopet, having a certain item in your inventory, etc. You start out with a group of non-secret avatars, but you can collect "secret" ones around the site using the aforementioned methods. The number of "secret" avatars you have collected will be displayed in your userlookup (or profile), and there is also a high score table where players can earn a trophy and a special "Avatar Collector" avatar for collecting the most "secret" avatars. There is even a special chat board specifically for discussion of avatars and avatar collectors.

While a lot of fun to collect, many players blame the arrival of "secret" avatars for the downfall of the Neopian economy. A formerly-affordable item will rise to hundreds of thousands of Neopoints (the site's currency) just because an avatar was released to go with it. An example is an item known as a "Quadrapus": it was worth 20,000 Neopoints at the start, which is quite cheap. However, now you cannot get one for under 350,000 Neopoints at the time of writing, because it can give you an avatar. This can be very frustrating, as it is difficult for the average user to earn Neopoints on the site, and even more difficult for them to purchase items when sellers get greedy and inflate such items to immense proportions over a square of pixels. Before avatars arrived, many items were more affordable than they are today. One item- 200,000 Neopoints before its avatar was released- has even risen to 30 million Neopoints (at the time of writing)!
Neopets News: "Can you figure out how to unlock this spooky-cute Blorpulous avatar?"
Avatar Collectors: "Look, a new avatar! We must have it!"
Avatar Collector: "Something Has Happened! You are now eligible to use "Blorpulous - Spooky" as an avatar on the Neoboards!"
Avatar Collector: "You need to have a 60-day-old Blorpulous attached to your pet, then view its lookup ^_^"
What will inevitably happen-
Sellers: *buy up all the cheap Blorpulous, then re-list them for 200,000 Neopoints each, effectively preventing your average Neopet user from obtaining one anytime soon due to the demand of avatar collectors who heavily collect Neopets avatars*

Neopets Syndrome

A series of characteristics often found in popular RPG-related sites and/or games. Characteristics often include an overabundance of 10 year olds, excessive work for minimal rewards, overly cute characters, excessive hype, and a BBS shat out from the bowels of hell itself. Named after the popular RPG site, neopets.
Ragnarok Online suffers greatly from the Neopets Syndrome.

Neopets Role Play Boards

Full of fangirls, High School, scenefags, along with sparkly vampire or teens-injected-with-animal-DNA role plays involving Mary-Sue characters created by emo fags with no originality. These "original" characters tend to be carbon copies of one another and are usually ridiculously scene/emo. Typical descriptions for said character contain unnecessary details about this person's past and how they angst about their parents both dying in some bizarre tragic event.

Very few people can actually write even remotely well. And those who claim to be able to write are typically elitist douchebags who use ridiculous amounts of purple prose so they can go on about how their introduction filled with mindless fluff is over 20 posts long.

The few decent writers all flock to out of character boards and sit around jerking each other off in the "neoclique" talking about how great it is to be "Neofamous" while blissfully unaware of the fact that they are completely pathetic by taking role playing on a virtual pet site so seriously, and even more pathetic for taking out of character drama on a role play board on a virtual pet site so seriously.

The only real amusing thing to do is troll. Which is ridiculously easy to do, even if you make your trolling attempts painfully obviously people will still be completely oblivious to it.
Typical character found on the Neopets role play boards:
Name:Tarot
Age:17 years
Hair: His air is a dark black color mixed with small streaks of silver. They are very unnoticeable.
Eyes:His eyes are a a Hazel color mixed with light green.
Powers: He is part Raven, meaning he has wings and claws. He can also change into a full Raven, though thats all he can change in to.
History: Tarot was born to a poor farmer in the south. He was pretty much normal through his childhood, until he reached thirteen years. He began to develop nasty backaches and sore hands. eventually, it eveolved into what he is today. He left his parents soon after, knowing they would despise him.
Personality: He is the Silent type, Gentle and somewhat angry;though he doesn't show it.
