Hinge it

‘Hinge’ is an adjective.

To ‘Hinge it’ - is to be somewhat out of your mind as a result of taking illicit substances.

This word/phrase originated in Carterton, Oxfordshire in the early 1990’s, where a person called Mark Heaton, was out of control on some mind bending drugs. At the time his friends convinced him that he had hinges in his arms and legs.

He started moving his body thinking that were full of hinges - he began to ‘Hinge it’. It was supremely entertaining. As a result this legendary phrase was born! And Mark thankfully made a full recovery. No harm done.

Now - in Oxfordshire - if someone is losing it due to drugs, they are known to be ‘hinging it’. It became part and parcel of the Oxfordshire rave and nightclub culture and is still used today.
Oh wow - I am really hinging it now!
