Default Mode

Noun. A term used to describe someone you continuously fall in and out of love with.

1. If you are coming out of a relationship and currently don’t love anyone, this is the person you will always say yes to.

2. If you see this person, you may temporarily love them, then eventually notice that you don’t really love them. This would happen several times.

3. The first person you would go to if you just needed a relationship or sex.

Janice is Chandler Bing’s default mode in Friends.

1. I just broke up with Susan, I don’t think I really live anyone. Actually, I like Emily, just until I find someone else though. Emily is just my default mode.

2. Last night, I was really thinking about my life and realized that I really actually love Emily, but I realized this morning that she’s just a default mode.

3. I really need someone in my life, so I’ll just go to my default mode, Emily.

When you get out of the shower and your hair settles down and looks basic like some guy named Dave.

Person 1- Wow your hair is so soft and fluffy
Person 2- Yeah but I definitely look like Default Dave right now

Latent defaulter

A latent defaulter is someone who visits a website because their default homepage is pre-set to that address, or are redirected to a particular website, through no action of their own. They do not purposely choose to visit the website but their visit is counted towards a website's traffic statistics, even though they may immediately leave the website.

When someone buys a new computer the installed browser has the homepage pre-set by default. When they open a browser window they automatically visit the website that has been pre-set. Alternatively when someone logs out of an email service, or instant messenger client, they can be automatically redirected to a particular website. These people are "latent defaulters".

Bravely Default

A game series made by square enix that was made to replicate the old-school style of final fantasy games. It features the Brave/Default battle system where you can perform multiple actions in one turn by using up "BP," but if you're in negative BP you can't act until your back up at zero. You also have the choice of saving up BP to use for later by guarding. The series currently features four main series games: Bravely Default and it's direct sequel Bravely Second on 3DS, the seperate story-wise but equally good Bravely Default II on switch, and the series' predesessor "Final Fantasy: The Four Heroes of Light" on the original DS. There were also two mobile games, both which have been shut down and were Japan-exclusive. Bravely Default: Praying Brigade, taking place 100 years after the first game, and Bravely Default: Fairy's Effect, taking place 1000 years after the original game.

Shadow Default

Coined in 2023. When someone in Canada cannot pay their mortgage and they haven't defaulted by banking standards. However, their loan balance is increasing and amortization is being pushed out because they cannot afford to pay (negative amortization). The default is happening in the shadows as it is not being picked up by regulators or the public. The person is in a shadow default.

Tom took out that variable rate mortgage in 2021 when he creamed his shorts to buy a house. He is now in shadow default as rates went up and he can't afford the mortgage.
