He turns into a monster(he calls his killer instincs as dark passenger) after experiencing his mother's brutal execution with chainsaw made by drug dealers in a container. In my opinion Dexter's last season was full of disappointment and his behaviors on last season were against the nature and definiton of a psychopath. So my personal opinion is he is a pure sociopath.
