Trap is an anime/manga term that is used to describe a character who is a cis male, but dresses and looks like a girl.

A reverse trap is the same as a trap, except that it’s a cis female who dresses and looks like a boy.

Person 1: I really like this character, she’s the best girl in this show!
Person 2: Actually, that character is not a girl. He’s a trap!
Person 1: I don’t care, I guess he’s best boy instead.

A word that implies someone dressing a certain way is doing so to trick people into thinking they're the opposite gender.

The term stems from anime communities, a genre which often sees a trope where a character dresses up for this sole purpose.

It is considered a slur by transgender people, as it's often used as such against them by people who inexplicably are afraid of transgender people. This is due to the implication that they're doing the same thing to attract and lure others, and thus need to be avoided.

Douche: The girl I was dating was a trap, so I ran away!
Person: Well you're an asshole! *runs away from douche*
