A derogatory insult local in North Shropshire, to call someone a 'Derwen' means they have special educational needs or disabilities such as Learning and physical disabilities even though they don't have a learning disability at all.

There is a specialist college in North Shropshire named the Derwen college that offers residential and day placements to students aged 16–25 with special educational needs and disabilities such as Autism, Behaviors of concern, or Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities.

This insult is similar to calling someone a 'Mong'
