Scientific Recursion

A self‑referential loop in science where scientific methods are applied to science itself—e.g., using psychology to study scientists, using sociology to study scientific communities, or using philosophy to examine the foundations of science. Scientific recursion can produce valuable meta‑insights (as in metascience) or can become a regress where each new discipline claims authority over the previous one, creating infinite layers without settling foundational questions.
Example: “The physicist dismissed the philosopher’s critique, saying only science can judge science. The philosopher replied: then what judges that claim? Scientific recursion: the endless layering of meta‑disciplines.”

Scientific Generativity

The capacity of scientific theories and methods to generate new research questions, experimental designs, and explanatory frameworks beyond what was initially given. Scientific generativity is what makes a theory “fruitful”—not just accurate but productive, opening new lines of inquiry. A generative theory suggests experiments no one had thought of, connects domains previously separate, and creates research programs that unfold over decades. Kuhn’s “normal science” is the exercise of generativity within a paradigm.

Scienspiracy Theory

A framework describing the uncritical acceptance of scientific consensus as beyond question, combined with the dismissal of any scientific inquiry that challenges dominant paradigms as “pseudoscience” or “denialism.” Scienspiracy theory treats science not as a fallible, self-correcting process but as a monolithic source of revealed truth. It discourages genuine scientific skepticism by labeling any questioning of orthodox views as anti-science. Unlike science itself (which thrives on challenge), scienspiracy theory is a faith in the current consensus as final.
