state-dependent learning

Psychological phenomenon where people remember things better when they return to whatever state of consciousness they were in when they originally learned them. If you do, say, Ritalin while studying for an exam, you'll do better if you're on Ritalin again when you actually take the test.

Student 1: Dude, it's 8:30am on Tuesday-- why are you drinking a beer?

Student 2: I got hammered while I was studying for my Econ final and now I don't remember anything. I'm hoping state-dependent learning will kick in once I get a buzz on, though.

bulimic learning

When information gets crammed into one's head in a very short period of time, only to be purged onto tests/quizzes. One can only hope some educational nuggets have been retained. Common in modular curriculum at vocational colleges.

That medical assistant program is totally bulimic learning. How do they expect us to know all that in six weeks?

When school systems are too lazy to let kids go back to school, and too lazy to even try to do virtual learning, they rely on "Asynchronous Learning" where they let the kids teach themselves.

O'learious

(adj./adv.) The state of drunkenness that makes people say "I didn't think it was possible to get that wasted." Only a veteran drinker can achieve a state of O'leariousity (O'leariousness is also an acceptable noun form.)

On St. Patrick's Day, Chris went to the bars at 9:00am. When he came back to the house for dinner he was O'learious and put his head through the wall when he tried to tackle Brian.
