To do something , have it fail, and have to do the job or try again. To take a second lick or try at it. Origions; hitting a nail with a hammer, but not getting it down far enough

He's had to relick that leaky pipe four times, and it still leaks.

I'm not sure how good a mechanic he is, that jobs a relick.
