Feminism is a social/political movement and ideology that aims to achieve the political, economic, personal, and social equality of the sexes. It is also a sub category of Egalitarianism that focuses primarily on women's issues. There are many different types of feminists with different ideas and approaches on how to achieve equality between the sexes such as radical feminists, liberal feminists, eco feminists, etc. There is also a pervasive attitude that feminism is only for women which is just not true, anybody can choose to be a feminist regardless of gender.
Joan: In class today we talked about feminism and what the movement is about, did you know that in the US child marriage is still legal?
Harriet: Yes! And in many states it is perfectly legal for police officers to have "sex" with people in their custody even though people in custody cannot consent.

Get the Feminism mug.Ok, a lot of definitions on here are really defensive and sad. Who hurt you people? Feminism is just equal rights between men and women. How would you feel if your mother, sister, wife, or daughter was called a “bitch” or a “slut”? I hope you would feel horribly about it because that would be the normal human reaction to have. Jesus Christ you people are scary.
Joe: “Hello fellow human. Seeing as you are a female member of our shared species, I was wondering if you could explain to me what feminism is?”
Jane: “Of course fellow human being. Although, you don’t have to be a woman in order to understand feminism. It is the belief that although we have a few differences between us, we can easily co-exist in equal standing because we are both humans and don’t really have a whole lot of differences.”
Joe: “Oh, that’s nice. Do you wanna hangout with me and my pet dog?”
Jane: “Sure!”
And they lived happily ever after because at the end of the day, who cares about what our differences are when there is a dog that needs our attention.

Though the corporate feminism has poisoned what feminism fights for and many pseudofeminists are hypocrites, it is still a necessary movement for women. Most feminists stand for rape prevention, domestic violence help and no sex trafficking and not girl power lipsticks and a female version of ghostbusters! The media will try to make us sound ridiculous so people don't take us seriously. It's propaganda!
Keep in mind, all good feminism is intersectional as hearing the voices of women of colour, poor women, disabled women etc is just as important!

Feminist: While, it is true that men get raped and male victims should be just as valid, most of these perpetrators are men. Women don't hate men as much as men hate women and men hate each other. And what's sad is that misogyny has seen women murdered, tortured and abused yet what men define as "women hating men" is #MenAreTrash tweets and internet trolls. These aren't comparable.
