punk rock

A genre of rock that is more about the message than the music. Punk songs are usually, but not always, made up of 3 chords.

If you're not sure if a song is punk, listen to the lyrics. If they are not about standing up for something the artist believes in (ie: anti-censorship, anti-war, anti-racism, etc.) then it is NOT a punk song. Punk is about standing up and fighting for something you believe in. It has nothing to do with the image or the artist, or even how the melody of the song sounds.

Examples of punk bands:
Sex Pistols, Ramones, Clash, NOFX, Rancid, Bad Religion

Nonexamples of punk bands:
New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, MxPx, Ataris, Thursday

Wannabe: "Hey! I wear clothes from Hot Topic! I'm punk!"

Real punk: "No, you're a poser. Punk has nothing to do w/ the clothes you wear."

Goth Punk

The new craze of fashion and mainly music. In all actuality, this is just normal punk with the "musicians" wearing goth clothes (i.e. all black, spikes, shredded clothes, arm bands to the elbow, stuff from Salvation Army, and multicolored hair). Bands like this are Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne, etc...

If you actually listen to the lyrics of their songs and compare them to those of Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, or Rob Zombie, you'll find that you're just listening to whiny people with less production work, weaker non-distorted guitars, and cheesy lyrics.

Girl: yo! i just snagged this sweet tie from goodwill, now i look Avril
Guy: tight! i just bought Good Charlotte's new cd, i'm the coolest dude EVER!
Goth Guy: *stabs both with wrist spikes, spits on them, and steals their shit*

conservative punk

An extremely contradicting phrase. You can't be a conservative and a punk. Not only is it un-intelligent, but it is also very disgraceful and pathetic. A conservative punk doesn't exist today, and most likely won't later on.

Poseur: Lyke, totally you guys! I'm totally punk!
Punk: Really now? What are your political prefferances?
Poseur: Well, I'm like, totally a conservative because I like, hate black people and um... bush is lyke, totally awesome!
Punk: You poseur. What's you're favorite band, you so called "punk".
Poseur: Ahh! It's totally Simple Plan.
Punk: I'm not surprised. Punk is about disregaurding orders and ANARCHY! You are a disgrace to true punks everywhere.
Poseur: OMG! But I thought that it was lyke, for rich white girls like me!
Punk: Go suck one of your crappy ass Avril Lavigne CD's
Poseur: Oooook! yay!

punk rock reject

a person who's stereotypically punk, i.e. has a 'punk lifestyle', is into piercings, short and/or spiked hair & unnaturally coloured hair, does whatever they want, believes firmly in either anarchy or freedom without war, goes to punk rock concerts, etc. but isn't isn't stereotyped as a "punk rocker", i.e. is frequently mistaken and/or misjudged & mistreated, and is generally an outcast. While all punks are typically outcasts, a punk rock reject ususally possesses the stereotypical qualities of being a skater or emo, and in very, VERY rare occasions, prep & goth. All in all, a punk rock reject is NOT a prep OR goth, but a punk.

emo: you think you're a punk rocker just because you're in a punk rock band?
punk rock reject: what the hell does it matter to you?
emo: what a loser.
punk rock reject: atleast i can actually play the guitar instead of crying over it and i can actually write lyrics that mean something instead of crying over my ex-girlfriend.

or..

punk rocker: I JUST GOT SOME WEED, WANT SOME?
punk rock reject: That's okay.
punk rocker: WTF? I thought you were a punk.
punk rock reject: I need my braincells for skateboarding, kthnx.
punk rocker: .... I see. Oh well, more for me. YAY.

Goth Punk

A style of clothing but not really music. Anything with the term goth concentrates mostly on clothing and fashion among teens who think they are rebellious but are really just cowards who haven't learned to properly define themselves yet. Most little smart ass bastards involved in the craze don't know anything about real rock music or heavy metal.

Those "Goth punk" kids claim to be against conformity, yet in actuality they are no better than the other social clicks they claim to despise.

pop-punk

A style of punk which features catchier tunes than regular punk, and simple 3-4 chord riffs.

Screeching Weasel, The Queers, Mr. T Experience, The Descendents, The Ramones, Bouncing Souls, and the Teen Idols are pop-punk. Blink 182, Sum 41, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, and New Found Glory are not.
