The term is given to a crumbled apple pie because when the guy in the movie "American Pie" used a pie to masterbate with, the pie was totally crumbled. So when reffering to a crumbled pie as an "American Pie", it is hilarious because it reflects upon the possibility that someone might have had sex with the pie.
