dog sorry

To apologise insincerely to appease someone in the short term, in the way that a dog will look submissive while being scolded but will repeat the same behaviour again once their owner has gone.

I sent a complaint and they wrote back with an apology, but they were just dog sorry as it happened again a week later!

A filler word used when one does not know how to handle a serious and/or dramatic situation. Often mistaken for heartfelt compassion, shared sadness, or a sincere apology, the word “sorry” actually has no feeling of guilt, regret, or concern for the other person. Rather, it is used in an attempt to draw attention away from an uncomfortable scenario in hopes that the other person will accept it and move onto a different topic in the conversation. It is also the most commonly overused word in the world along with the likes of love, honesty, and fairness.
