To study or revise; become informed about a new subject. Possibly Jackspeak (UK Royal Navy slang). Can also be "buff up".

I don't know anything about it; I'll have to boff up on it tonight.

dog sorry

To apologise insincerely to appease someone in the short term, in the way that a dog will look submissive while being scolded but will repeat the same behaviour again once their owner has gone.

I sent a complaint and they wrote back with an apology, but they were just dog sorry as it happened again a week later!
