Unlike what 95% of the people here say, Memphis is a great city. Yes there are bad neighborhoods but those exist in EVERY freakin' city. We no longer have the highest crime rate. I have lived in memphis since I was born and not once have I been shot at, robbed, mugged, threatened, or raped. Our government is messed up but other then that Memphis is a good city to live in. Oh and 80% of the population doesn't even like Elvis and 90% hasn't even visited Graceland. So stop bashing us about him. We have history and who cares if 60% of the population is African American? Thats just stereotypical. If you want to see real crime, move to Somalia idiots.

Taking its influence from the old negro spirituals arising out of the cotton fields and the river, along with a new, distinctive driving drum beat, this new music became easily identifiable as it permeated the airwaves and topped the charts. STAX and HI Records were the local independent labels credited with this new creation.
The Memphis Sound is characterized mainly by soul R&B music with its deep, groovin' bass lines, light guitar work, keys (ranging from wurlitzer to Hammond B-3), and powerful vocals. It was accentuated by the horn sound prevalent in such soul classics as Hold On I'm Comin', Knock On Wood, Proud Mary, and others.
More recently, The Memphis Sound name has been utilized for band names, company names, and more generally, simply to describe the glory days of Memphis Music. The Memphis Sound Drum and Bugle Corp, est. 2002, was crowned National Champion in 2007, but had moved to Texas and become defunct by 2010. The Memphis Sound band, created in 1996, lauds the best musicians, vocalists, and production in the region, performing ove 80 events annually. Memphis Sound Entertainment, est. circa 1993, is a full service Music and Entertainment Company located in Memphis, Tennessee. The company produces major concerts and private events throughout the United States.

Get the The Memphis Sound mug.Memphis is an over-judged place. We have amazing history,beautiful nature, a fantastic zoo, and great food. We may have a high crime rate, but its has gone down. We also have the most amount of churches in one city. We have tons of culture, that mix pretty well. We have so many places to eat, that are sanitary! Beale Stret has amazing history and super cool trolleys! We have historical houses,buildings, and land. I love my Memphis home and wouldn't want to grow up anywhere else. I have never been threatened or harmed in any way either. We have a wonderful soup kitchen that have amazing volunteers and amazing stories. We also have awesome festivals! There's always a place where everyone can fit in! We can only get better from here. We are family. And our family only gets bigger :)
