Grayberry

A friendly, small town in Jones County Georgia.

Gray is 13 miles north of Macon, Georgia. It's a 16 minutes drive.
Gray is 87 miles southeast of Atlanta, Georgia. It's a 1 hour 29 min drive.

Because of it's small Southern charm, Gray is affectionately referred to as "Grayberry" by some local residents, as a nod to the beloved town of Mayberry from the Andy Griffith TV show.

The program aired on television in the 1960's (from October 3, 1960 to April 1, 1968). It starred Mount Airy native Andy Griffith and focused on life in the fictional community of Mayberry, North Carolina, said to be have been modeled after Griffith’s hometown. When The Andy Griffith Show ended in 1968, it was the number-one ranked show on television.

Many of its 249 episodes still appear in syndication and currently air weekdays in Central Georgia where Gray is located on 13WMAZ after the 5:00pm local news, and has been on the airways there for decades.

Filmed at Desilu Studios in California, the wholesome half-hour show featured the small-town antics of the widowed Sheriff Taylor, his bumbling deputy Barney Fife (Don Knotts), son Opie (Ron Howard), spinster housekeeper Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier) and other colorful Mayberry characters.

In July of 2019, film crews were in downtown Macon shooting scenes for a new Ron Howard film called, "Hillbilly Elegy," which is based off a book by J.D. Vance about growing up in the Midwest with Appalachian roots.
