Feminist

A person who supports equal rights. This word is often misused by people claiming to want equal rights but really just wanting special treatment, and people who think all feminists act as such. Now considered a bad thing, and often used as an insult.

Feminists are often NOW members.
(The misuse of "feminist")
Jane: Well, John, I think that since we're doing the same amount of work in the exact same position, don't you think I should be earning the same amount of money?
John: Jane, if you keep talking like that everyone's going to think you're a feminist.
Jane: OH MY GOD! I'm sorry, I'm not a feminist, I don't want anyone to think that!
(Correct usage)
Jane: Well, John, I think that since we're doing the same amount of work in the exact same position, don't you think I should be earning the same amount of money?
John: Jane, if you keep talking like that everyone's going to think you're a feminist.
Jane: Well, John, I am. And I'm proud of it. I just want equal pay.

feminism

1. the advocation of social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.
2. an organized movement for the attainment of such rights for women.

A response to sexism, which is also known as an institutional barrier within a society that systematically prohibits women from gaining equal status to men.

While humanism may be the equal rights for both men and women, feminism is also significant because women have been historically and cross-culturally subject to being of lesser status than men. Because patriarchy is such a prevalent form of social organization, and because by its very definition it relegates women as less than equal when compared to men, as long as patriarchy exists, feminism exists by necessity.

COMMON MYTHS:
1. Men can't be feminists.
FALSE. Both men and women can support equal rights for women.
2. All feminists are men-haters.
FALSE. Feminists do not necessarily hate men; in fact, most don't.
Feminism exists because women are systematically and institutionally prejudiced against; it is not the result of one person's or one generation's choices, but because society has set women up to equate to less from the start.

feminism

A word used, mainly by men, to categorise a woman who distinguishes herself as anything other than a sex slave or doormat.
"I bought that bitch two beers and she still won't sleep with me! Jeez, what a feminist."

Femininemurder

Narcisstic, misanthropic female. Enjoys her life when in distress and sore. Fantasizes about getting doused in gasoline.
A detached, sullen, misanthropic, valiant, maladjusted personality who, throughout her two years of internet blogging, proved to be one feared and resenting chat mate. A 'femininemurder' has nothing to do with the two words combined's definition. In urban and creative culture, 'femininemurder' stands for an unhinged self-righteous schizophrenic female. The word was created by a vampirefreaks user, who practically never stands to human beings' expectations and far from this, their consideration. The word is complex and it may be deviant in thoughtful ways.

third wave feminism

Impressions from the field (not academic research):

- First wave of feminism = women (generally white, straight, well-educated, and well off) fighting for their rights
- Second wave of feminism = women (often white, well-educated, and well off but also a more diverse range of women of color and sexual orientations) fighting for the rights of women of many colors, ethnicities, nationalities, religions, and cultural backgrounds
- Third wave of feminism = more diverse women fighting for the rights of all women including a focus on queer women as well as sex workers
- Third wave of feminism may also = women who believe there is no need for feminism and who do not embrace the term "feminist" but who expect to be treated equally
- Fourth wave of feminism includes intersectionality and the issues of trans women (?)
Her entire blog is dedicated to equal rights for everyone and she's proud of her third wave feminism.
