One of the oldest forms of activity between two consenting individuals. Began as an alternative to asexual reproduction around 1.38 billion years ago, where bacteria would simply play catch with their DNA and reproduce as a result, then branched out into each species of animal. Organisms that reproduced, passed on characteristics such as lust, and a desire for parenthood. The actual biological parts like genitals, a womb, menstruation, sperm + egg, came later as species evolved.

Much later, when humans came along, we began to repurpose this act. It was no longer just to reproduce. We ended up with the want to prove intimacy. Pleasure. Power. Love and romance. Connection. Bonding. The list goes on.
We use contraception to STOP the reproduction if we're not ready. We talk about it all day long. We see it in the media plastered everywhere. We link it to social status and fulfillment, hence why "virginity", "lack of partners", or the desire to not have children are often frowned upon or viewed as deviant.
