at the inception of saskatchewan in 1847, the founder of a small settlement of jezuit pioneers by the name of frederick montgomery expanded his farm land to cover the area known today as regina and called the people who lived on this land saskatorian combining the greek saskatchewan meaning prairie land and the latin -orian meaning dweller , so saskatorian means prairie dweller and the people of saskatchewan adopted this name.

There is a girl from Saskatchewan who denies being a Saskatorian even though she obviously is. She insists on calling herself a Saskatonian.
