The phenomenon where until smartphones have been around for sufficiently long periods of time, there are multiple different conventions on how well a child should behave in order to get more screen time. Even though by now, there have been found the following deciding factors on whether someone (children or otherwise) should (be allowed to) have screen time: a) the desired duration of screen time, b) the purpose of having screen time, c) personal susceptibility towards the effect(s) of excessive screen time.
In our household, screen time conventions are strict; we have to consider behavior, purpose, and how long the kids can actually handle it without experiencing brainrot.

Get the Screenshot mug.Derived from the portmanteau of "screen time" and "self-worth", this slang term refers to the phenomenon where you outsource your self-worth to the maximum amount of screen time that you can get from your parents. For example, when you're participating in the competition of getting as much screen time as possible from your parents, while your opponents are 270 millions of Indonesian residents with the average screen time of 6.05 hours per day — the highest in the world.
After arguing with my parents for an extra hour of screen time, I realized my screenworth was way too high—it's like I measured my value based on how much time I could binge-watch YouTube on my smartphone compared to my friends!

Every time I check my screen time stats, I feel the pressure of the screen time rivalry, especially knowing Indonesia has the highest average at over 6 hours a day!

This phenomenon typically happens when the amount of screen time you "deserve" increases, even though the behaviour requirement to get each hour of extra screen time from your parents akcually remains the same.
Ever since my parents started tracking my screen time, I've been feeling the effects of "screenflation"—I'm doing the same chores but now it feels like I have to jump through hoops just to earn that extra hour of YouTube time!
